Begin with a normal week
Write down the situations you dress for: commuting, desk work, errands, exercise and social time. A useful capsule reflects that mix. You do not need a fixed number of items, a specific aesthetic or a new shopping list.
Pull out your reliable pieces
Choose a few tops, bottoms, layers and shoes that you wear comfortably. Put together complete outfits before deciding that an item belongs in the capsule. Notice which pieces work across more than one situation.
Make color work for you
Start with colors you like wearing together. Navy, charcoal and cream are one possible base; rich greens, browns or brighter shades are equally valid. Repeat a color in a layer or accessory to connect an outfit without making everything match.
Test before you buy
Wear your combinations for a week and note what is missing. A gap is specific: a layer warm enough for your commute, for example. Try another piece from your closet first, then keep only purchases that solve a recurring need.
